Good Friday
As is traditional, we broke our fast with Hot Cross Buns this morning.
Tonight was the "Veneration of the Cross" Service at St. Mary's, so off I toddled.
The Choir was, as ever, superb, and the long, dignified liturgy fitting in with the solemn occurance that we comemorated.
The 'highlight' of the service (although to use such a term is not fitting in the slightest) was the proclamation of the cross, and the customary veneration by kissing the feet of the corpus. The liturgy gave a good bit of time for reflection on the Cross, while the choir sang some haunting reproaches, which was most welcome.
Most merciful God,
who by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ
delivered and saved mankind:
grant that by faith in him who suffered on the cross,
we may triumph in the power of his victory;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
